Because you want to know specifically how to improve public-facing writing for authentic progress and inclusion in local government projects.

Public-involvement agencies’ boilerplate for marketing their services to government clients has come to read like this:

“We believe creating equitable and inclusive engagement programs is the most pressing issue facing our practice today.”

Given that belief, why not:

  • Write to involve more of the public — rather than just the handful who are most fluent in wonk/geek-speak.

  • Learn and apply practices from those trained and experienced in writing to engage the public.

That’s not all agencies need to do, of course. But it’s authentic progress that any and each of us can make right now.
